A FlyDubai flight bound for Tel Aviv became the scene of a dramatic mid-air emergency when a passenger stabbed the pilot, prompting an emergency landing and a swift response from crew and passengers.
The co-pilot, who sustained injuries in the attack, managed to maintain control of the aircraft and land safely. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that the co-pilot “prevented another 9/11” by keeping the plane airborne despite his injuries.
Investigators are working to establish the motive behind the attack. Netanyahu indicated that the co-pilot had undergone radical Islamist indoctrination, though officials have not yet confirmed a terrorism link.
Passengers and crew members, including a plumber and a dentist who happened to be on board, were praised as heroes for subduing the attacker and assisting the injured pilot. The incident has raised questions about airport security and passenger screening procedures.
The flight was carrying over 150 passengers and crew. All survived the ordeal, though the pilot required medical treatment for his injuries.
